Ltd. (NRSC) has been appointed by Unique Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited to undertake the design the bridge construction systemfor New Phra Nangklao bridge over Chao Phraya River. Formtravellers (Bridgebuilder, BB) has been defined as anunbalanced cantilevering construction system for the construction of the cast-in-situ prestressed concrete (PC) of themain bridge over the river that consists of 3 spans: 130-229-130 meter. Segments are the double box sections withvaried height and length and constant in width. The maximum weight of segment is 359 tons with 5.0 meter length. Themain scope of work is to design the BB. NRS Consulting will also provide engineering know-how, technical supportand advice on the bridge construction. This paper presents several design challenges due to site constraints and bridgeconstruction itself. These challenges include special considerations to ensure efficient installation and launching of BB,and a purpose-built internal and external formwork system for each segment having the varied depth from 2.50 to 12.32meter.
